We pick up a few tasty treats from the Royalty Pecan Farms in the Brazos Valley. With its beautiful location and delicious delicacies just exploring this farm is one shell of an of experience!
The Texas Bucket List – Puppets, Peached Tortilla, and a Pretty Place to Stay
This week on “The Texas Bucket List,” we visit places that have undergone renovations to bring you some of the best of what Texas has to offer.
Our first stop is at Geppetto’s Theater and Workshop in the Dallas Hilton Anatole Hotel. If you think that marionette plays are just for kids, then think again. The medieval charm and magical feel will transport you back and time and make you forget that the puppets onstage aren’t real. This is a performance that you have to see to believe!
After watching the theater’s amazing routine, we drop in at the Peached Tortilla in Austin to sample a burger that has homegrown southern roots, but branches into the flavor explosion of Asian cuisine. It’s a blend of flavors well mixed with a few special ingredients that you just have to try for yourself!
Next, we sway with the music to some head-nodding, foot-tapping blues by Jay White and the Blues Commanders performing “What Have We Learned.”
For our last stop, we kick back and relax in Del Rio to the beautiful views and dazzling sunsets of the Lodge at Sanders Point by Lake Amistad. There’s no better place to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life with a family trip or weekend getaway in the cabins. We’ll see you next week, after we’re done taking our own little vacation!
The Texas Bucket List – Thurber Ghost Town
If you can’t get enough of the eerie, pop on over to Thurber, a ghost town with a tall spire on Interstate 20. There not too much that’s left of the once-bustling Texas brick manufacturing and coal mining town. We learn about the people that were forced to leave this place and visit one of the most desolate graveyards we’ve ever gazed at — well worth the stop on The Texas Bucket List!
This Week on The Texas Bucket List – Goliad, Gold’n Crisp, and Great Hands
This week on The Texas Bucket List we visit places that have had a hand in shaping history in more ways than one.
First we visit Presidio La Bahia in Goliad to explore the grounds where men died defending the great state of Texas from Santa Anna’s troops. You can even stay the night at La Bahia, just as long as you aren’t afraid of the ghosts of soldiers past. It’s a place that every Texan should visit and listen close to hear the cry of war in the breeze – Remember Goliad!
Next we grab a bite at Gold N Crisp in La Grange, well-known for their mouthwatering fried chicken but also sporting a wholesome and delicious cheeseburger. You’d better hurry to cross this one off of your list, because the owners – who served food for the infamous Chicken Ranch – are looking to retire. Grab your burger before it’s too late – and don’t forget a drumstick or two!
After we finish our last juicy bite, we stop in Bryan to jam out to country singer Austin English’s “Crazy.”
For our final stop we visit the Hand Collection of Dr. Adrian Flatt, M.D. in Dallas at the Baylor University Medical Center. From presidents to football players, the hands of people that have made some of the greatest contributions to society are preserved forever in his personal collection. We have to give a hand to Dr. Flatt, because this is an exhibit that you’ve just got to add to your list.
The Texas Bucket List – Orlando’s
We fill our bellies at Orlando’s in Lubbock, an Italian restaurant with a burger that has a taste of paradise!
This Weekend on The Texas Bucket List – Market Square, Braindead Brewing, & Royalty Pecans
If you’re into things that are homemade and home-grown, get ready to add some great places to your list this week on The Texas Bucket List!
To get things going we start off with a little shopping at the San Antonio Market Square, one of the largest markets for Mexican goods outside of Mexico. Be prepared for bright colors, rich culture, and history that dates back to 1730.
Next, prepare to send your taste buds into a coma after just one bite of the Coma Burger at Braindead Brewing Company in Dallas. This phenomenal burger is made with unique, homemade ingredients from the patty to the mustard. Cool vibes, homemade brews, and an even better burger!
After that flavor explosion, we recover by listening to “You Dream, I’ll Drive” by country crooner Josh Grider.
Last but certainly not least, we pick up some pecans at the Royalty Pecan Farms in the Brazos Valley. If you need a nice, flavorful holiday snack or just want to try something different, the home-grown flavored pecans are the perfect choice. Nothing beats the beautiful location and delicious delicacies to round out this week’s edition of The Texas Bucket List.
The Texas Bucket List – Haley Cole “Goodwill”
Haley Cole performs “Goodwill” as part of the Texas Music Pickers concert at the Grand Stafford Theater in downtown Bryan, Texas.
This Weekend on The Texas Bucket List
This week on The Texas Bucket List, we gear up for Halloween to bring you some extra spooky places to add to your list.
First up, we pop on over to Thurber, a ghost town that is all that’s left of a Texas brick manufacturing industry. Who were the people that were forced to leave this place? More importantly, what did they do with their deceased loved ones that they had to leave behind?
Looking for a place that adds a little paranormal to your dining experience? The Auntie Skinner’s Riverboat Club in Jefferson delivers you the chillingly delicious Dive Bar Burger. Just don’t get caught on the staircase after hours, because you might just come face-to-face with the resident ghost, George.
Get in the spirit of Halloween listening to some country-soul swamp-funk, “Devil’s Song,” performed by the band Shinyribs.
If you haven’t had enough of the eerie and unnatural we stop at the National Museum of Funeral History located in north Houston. As the only funeral history museum in the nation, this museum features exhibits on famous figures from presidents to Marilyn Monroe. We can guarantee you won’t be bored stiff when you come for a visit!
The Texas Bucket List – Graceful Ghost Steamboat
We head to Caddo Lake to ride on a steamboat that is more than just a ghostly echo of the past.
The Texas Bucket List – The Tee Pee Motel
We visit a man who won the lottery and decided to restore a historic hotel in Wharton.
